Anyone else experience deodorant crystal stones with jagged edges?

I've bought deodorant crystal stones a couple of times and both developed holes which became jagged edges. I've actually been cut by the stones. I rinse thoroughly before and after using. I've also noticed white spots developing when I don't use them for a while. Anyone have an explanation for this?

They are made of salt.

If you keep them in your bathroom, condensation from the shower/bathtub is likely getting onto them, causing them to "melt".
Reply:Why not just use stick deodorants?
Reply:I always run the crystal deodorants under the tap before I use them to help dissolve the surface so it is not so sharp. I have a tendency to drop them, and they break. The broken edges are sharp until I've wet them a few times.

The white spots I have noticed are dried out bits, or minute cracks. Nothing to worry about because nothing can grow on those crystals.
